Family tree reflection:
This year in Chinese I have grown in my ability to learn the Chinese and teach other people stuff in Chinese. One project that proves my growth is the family tree project.
Does your family have a family tree? If not have you ever wanted to make one? Well I had the opportunity to make my family tree in my Chinese 1 class! This project was so fun. The objective of this project was to review and use what students learned over the course of Lesson 2 (vocab, grammar, expression, correct sentence usage). To show case their knowledge of materials learned in Lesson 2 (family) and to practices speaking Chinese. The requirements of the projects were to make the family tree on a PowerPoint, poster or Prezi. Each family member had a picture with their first and last name, occupation and age. The minimum amount of family you could use was ten.
For my artifact I will use the PowerPoint that I made for this project. The first member of my family I used was myself. On this slide I explained that my name is Seth, and I am 15 years old, and I play basketball and I like Chinese food. On the next I introduced my brother. He is 14 years old, plays basketball, and when we play video games he always loses to me. Next was my oldest sister Jill. She is married, loves dogs, 26 years old, and works at hh Gregg. After Jill was my older sister Emily who is 25 years old, always on her phone, works at Kroger and favorite color is purple. Next was my mom. She is 50 years old, drives super slow, she is from Iowa and is an accountant at Morris Home Furnishing. My dad, who was next on the PowerPoint is 55 years old, from Brooklyn, New York, the funniest person I know, own his own furniture business and can cook really well. That is all of my immediate family that I used. Since I didn’t have enough I had to make up family characters.
For my second artifact I will use the lesson 2 description page. This lesson is all about Family. There are four basic learning objectives. In this lesson we learned how to use Chinese to employ basic kinship terms; describe a family photo; ask about someone’s profession; and say some common professions. In this lesson I think that there are 3 very important terms. The first is 家庭 (Jiātíng) which means family. The second character or term is 照片 (Zhàopiàn) which means picture. The last term is 个 (ge) which is a measure word for a common object.
These artifacts proves my growth because it shows that I was able to learn the information and take it in and then teach the other people about my family. Having a skill where you can learn something and teach other is a very good skill to have. It can get you a lot of places, so for example doing this might make me want to become a teacher!
